TTX AWARDS 1,100-UNIT 89' FLAT CAR ORDER TO JOHNSTOWN AMERICA CORPORATION

Johnstown America recently began production on an 1,100-unit flat car order for TTX Company, the dominant provider of flat car equipment to the railroad industry. In addition to the current order, Johnstown America has built 4,000 flat cars for TTX over the past two years, all of which have been designed for the application of autoracks.

The order encompasses 800 89' standard-level and 300 89' low-level flat cars. Standard-level flat cars accommodate bi-level autoracks and are primarily used for carrying vans, sport utility vehicles, and light trucks. Low-level flat cars are fitted with tri-level racks and are primarily used to carry automobiles.

Johnstown America will first build 105 of the standard-level cars, then shift production to produce the 300 low-level cars before completing the remainder of the standard flat cars. This production schedule was necessary to accommodate a critical delivery element required by a TTX customer.

"Our ability to deliver cars on time can be as equally critical to a customer as the car's quality and cost," said Mike Kelly, Vice President, Sales -- Midwest Region for Johnstown America. "That was the case this time, and our flexibility permitted us to accommodate TTX's flat car delivery requirements."

"TTX is a long-term customer," concluded Mike Siska, product line manager at Johnstown America. "We're delighted that they find our high-quality railcars and manufacturing flexibility well-suited to their needs."

TTX Company is a provider of pooled railcars and intermodal services for the nation's railroads. FreightCar America (JAC) is a leading producer of cost-competitive, high-quality railcars. JAC is a single-source for engineering expertise, efficient production, and industry experience, all of which provide the highest value in railcar solutions.
